Sedation dentistry information

What type of sedation does Dr. Connelly use?

We use the appropriate level of sedation that is just right for you. It can range from “laughing gas” which produces a feeling of well being to moderate sedation where people feel like they are sleeping or actually do fall asleep during there treatment.

With some patients, Dr. Connelly will prescribe an oral sedative, like valium or ativan that helps relax some people, but this is not effective for people who want to be “asleep” during treatment.

Moderate sedation; also know as “conscious” or “IV sedation” is the preferred method according too many of our patients and Dr. Connelly. People feel like they “slept” through their appointment and when they “wake up” they have little or no memory of it. It is a safe, precise, and highly effective technique for management of moderate to more severe levels of fear. The recovery time is relatively quick. For patients afraid of needles, Dr. Connelly will prescribe and oral sedative like Ativan, or Triazolam to use prior to their appointment.

When you arrive in our office, you will be escorted into the comfort room, covered with a thick, warm blanket and placed on a monitor to watch your vital signs. After you are comfortable, Dr. Connelly and the experienced clinical team at St Johns Dental Care will take care of your dental needs.

When your treatment is completed, your companion will return you home to finish your comfortable, relaxing day.
